Th17 cells and group 3 innate lymphoid cells in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases: Shared pathways and therapeutic strategies
Th17 cells and group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) share key transcriptional regulators, such as RORγt, and secrete overlapping cytokines including IL-17 and IL-22. These cell types play essential roles in mucosal immunity and chronic inflammation, particularly in autoimmune diseases such as spondyloarthritis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and multiple sclerosis. Their overlapping functions and shared signaling pathways make them attractive targets for immunotherapy. This Research Topic aims to explore the biological mechanisms and therapeutic targeting of Th17 and ILC3 cells in human and experimental models of immune-mediated diseases. We welcome submissions covering, but not limited to:- Cytokine signaling and cellular networks involving Th17 and ILC3s- Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation (e.g., RORγt, AHR)- Tissue-specific roles of IL-17/IL-22 in autoimmunity- Th17/ILC3 interactions with myeloid and epithelial cells- Targeted therapies: anti-IL-17, IL-23 blockers, RORγt inhibitors- Comparative insights from human studies and animal modelsWe encourage original research articles, reviews, and mini-reviews that provide insights into both fundamental biology and translational immunology.
