The Adaptive Potential of Fungi: Reviews, Perspectives and Commentaries on How Signaling, Physiology, Metabolism and Development are Coordinated to Thrive
Fungal biology encompasses a wide range of interconnected processes, including signaling, physiology, metabolism, and development, which enable fungi to interact with other organisms and thrive in almost all environments. While recent advances have shed light on molecular pathways and functional diversity among fungal species, fundamental questions remain regarding how these processes integrate to enable adaptation, drive fungal growth and determine ecological roles. Ongoing research continues to reveal both conserved and unique strategies used by fungi, but critical gaps in understanding their coordination and regulation persist. This Research Topic aims to offer a comprehensive forum for synthesizing recent progress and fostering insightful discussion in fungal signaling, physiology, metabolism, and development. By prioritizing reviews, perspectives, and commentaries, the goal is to critically assess the current knowledge, highlight emerging themes, and identify challenges and opportunities for future research in these interconnected areas. The scope of this Research Topic is to address overarching concepts and current trends across all fungi and gather further insights. We welcome high-quality review, perspective and commentary articles on, but not limited to, the following themes: Key signaling pathways in fungal biologyRegulation of fungal metabolismAdaptations in fungal physiologyMechanisms of fungal developmentIntegration of signaling, metabolism, and developmentEvolution and conservation/specificity of these pathways and mechanismsEmerging challenges and opportunities in fungal research Topic editors: Koon Ho Wong, Oier Etxebeste, Iran Malavazi, Fang Wang Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/78104/the-adaptive-potential-of-fungi-reviews-perspectives-and-commentaries-on-how-signaling-physiology-metabolism-and-development-are-coordinated-to-thrive
