The Role of Behavior, Physical Activity, Diet, and Non-Pharmacological Interventions in Cardiovascular Health and Prevention

Cardiovascular health is influenced by a complex interplay of behaviors and lifestyle factors that can modulate risk and disease progression. Physical activity, along with other non-pharmacological interventions such as dietary modifications, stress reduction, and behavioral therapies, are increasingly recognized for their role in preventing and managing cardiovascular diseases. Non-invasive wearable technologies and advances in continuous monitoring have expanded our ability to assess cardiovascular function and autonomic regulation in real-time, offering insights into the dynamic response of the cardiovascular system to behavioral changes. Despite robust evidence linking lifestyle and cardiovascular outcomes, translating these findings into effective strategies and personalized interventions remains a challenge. This Research Topic aims to gather multidisciplinary contributions that explore how diet, physical activity, and other non-drug interventions affect cardiovascular health and disease prevention. The goal is to deepen the understanding of underlying physiological mechanisms, evaluate intervention efficacy, and develop strategies for effective cardiovascular risk reduction. Emphasis is placed on integrating nutritional and behavioral science, exercise physiology, autonomic nervous system function, and novel monitoring technologies to provide comprehensive insights. Contributions addressing the interaction between lifestyle factors and cardiovascular biomarkers, the role of non-pharmacological tools in modifying autonomic balance, or the application of machine learning in personalizing interventions are encouraged. The goal of this Research Topic is to deepen the understanding of underlying physiological mechanisms, evaluate intervention efficacy, and develop strategies for effective cardiovascular risk reduction. Themes of interest include: • Integration of behavioral science, exercise physiology, autonomic nervous system function, and novel monitoring technologies for comprehensive insights.• Interactions between lifestyle factors and cardiovascular biomarkers.• Roles of non-pharmacological tools in modifying autonomic balance (e.g., stress management, sleep, mindfulness, exercise).• Application of machine learning and continuous monitoring to personalize interventions.• Development of evidence-based recommendations and practical guidelines for cardiovascular risk reduction through behavioral and lifestyle approaches. This topic seeks to advance evidence-based recommendations and practical guidelines for improving cardiovascular outcomes through behavioral and lifestyle approaches.
