Thyroid Eye Disease Volume II
Following the success of Thyroid eye disease, we are pleased to present Volume II of this collection. Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) remains a significant concern in the field of ophthalmology, especially due to its direct impact on ocular function and patient quality of life. This autoimmune inflammatory disorder frequently arises in conjunction with thyroid dysfunction, presenting with a complex array of symptoms such as eyelid retraction, proptosis, pain, and visual disturbance, including diplopia and optic neuropathy. Despite decades of dedicated research, several key aspects of TED’s pathogenesis and optimal management remain under debate. Recent studies have highlighted both advances and persistent gaps, particularly in understanding molecular pathways, refining diagnostic tools, and evaluating the long-term outcomes of emerging therapies. The field is witnessing increasing interest in not only improving current treatments but also in exploring new disease mechanisms and individualized patient care strategies. This Research Topic aims to bring together a comprehensive collection of scholarly work that advances our understanding of Thyroid Eye Disease while fostering innovation in its diagnosis, management, and care delivery. By inviting contributions from clinicians, researchers, and interdisciplinary teams, this Topic seeks to answer pressing questions about disease mechanisms, evaluate novel therapeutics and surgical interventions, challenge existing paradigms of diagnosis and patient management, and further knowledge into patient-centered outcomes. Specific goals include addressing unresolved questions about TED’s molecular underpinnings, introducing innovative clinical practices, and integrating cutting-edge technology into both research and clinical care. This Research Topic encompasses translational, clinical, and surgical aspects of Thyroid Eye Disease while setting boundaries to focus on new research directions, recent advances, and multidisciplinary approaches. Work that merely reiterates established practices without novel insight may be considered outside the primary scope. To gather further insights in TED, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Elucidation of pathophysiological mechanisms and molecular pathways.- Development and validation of new diagnostic and imaging techniques.- Innovations in medical and immunomodulatory treatments.- Advances in surgical strategies and perioperative management.- Patient-centered care and long-term management outcomes.- Use of novel technologies in treatment planning and delivery.- Implementation and evaluation of multidisciplinary approaches to care.We encourage submissions of original research papers, review articles, case reports, and methodological advancements related to TED.
