Toward precision brain stimulation: mechanisms, methods, and applications

The landscape of brain stimulation is evolving rapidly, with TMS, TES, TUS, DBS, and other emerging neuromodulation techniques increasingly integrated with neuroimaging and computational methods to enable more targeted and individualized interventions. These developments are expanding our capacity to probe, modulate, and quantify human brain function across multiple spatial and temporal scales, driving a shift from standardized protocols toward adaptive and personalized modulation of brain circuits that accounts for individual variability and dynamic brain states. The scope of this Research Topic encompasses interdisciplinary efforts aimed at advancing both the understanding and application of precise brain stimulation, spanning fundamental mechanisms to translational and clinical perspectives. It seeks to address key challenges and emerging opportunities in the field, highlighting the integration of neuroscientific insights, technological innovation, and clinical relevance. We particularly welcome contributions that expand current knowledge and extend the applications of precise brain stimulation across diverse functional and clinical contexts.Topics of Interest (but not limited to)● Brain stimulation techniques, including TMS, TES (tDCS/tACS), TUS, and DBS, as well as methodological and technological advances● Brain-state–informed stimulation, including phase-, power-, and context-dependent modulation● Computational and analytical approaches for modeling, characterizing, and optimizing stimulation effects● Multimodal neuroimaging integration, including EEG, fNRIS, and fMRI, as well as concurrent stimulation–recording paradigms● Experimental paradigms and quantitative frameworks for investigating stimulation across spatial, temporal, and network scales● Clinical and translational studies in neurological and psychiatric disorders, rehabilitation, and cognitive enhancement Topic editors: Jiahua Xu, Dania Humaidan, Yang Bai, Ningfei Li, Umair Hassan Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/83378/toward-precision-brain-stimulation-mechanisms-methods-and-applications
