Transforming Public Health Systems in Latin America: Challenges, Innovations, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Solutions: Volume II

This Research Topic is a second volume. Please see the first volume at: Transforming Public Health Systems in Latin America: Challenges, Innovations and Sustainable SolutionsPublic health systems in Latin America face persistent and interconnected challenges, including chronic funding constraints, inadequate and unevenly distributed infrastructure, inefficient resource allocation, limited access to essential health services, and significant disparities in health outcomes. These challenges are further compounded by emerging health needs, changing demographic and epidemiological patterns, shortages of qualified healthcare professionals, and unequal access to medicines, technologies, and preventive and curative services. As a result, many countries in the region continue to face difficulties in achieving equitable, accessible, resilient, and sustainable health systems. In response to these challenges, governments, healthcare organizations, communities, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders are exploring innovative approaches to strengthen public health systems. These include decentralized and community-based healthcare models, digital health and technological solutions, innovative financing mechanisms, public-private partnerships, social and health entrepreneurship, and new models for delivering healthcare services. Such approaches may contribute to improving accessibility, efficiency, quality, affordability, and the long-term sustainability of health services, particularly in underserved and resource-constrained settings. At the same time, the early identification of health needs, symptoms, emerging diseases, and changes in population health patterns is becoming increasingly important for strengthening prevention, preparedness, and timely intervention. Identifying emerging public health trends and understanding their implications can support evidence-based decision-making and facilitate the development of more responsive health policies and services. In this context, research addressing health innovation, entrepreneurship, emerging trends, and opportunities for improvement can provide valuable insights into how public health systems can adapt to changing societal and health demands. This Research Topic aims to explore the challenges, innovations, entrepreneurial approaches, and sustainable solutions shaping public health systems in Latin America. It seeks to promote evidence-based research on healthcare accessibility, affordability, financing, infrastructure, policy effectiveness, technological transformation, community participation, and health system sustainability. Particular attention is given to innovative and entrepreneurial initiatives that can contribute to improving healthcare delivery, expanding access, addressing unmet health needs, and strengthening the resilience of public health systems.Key questions include: What are the main structural and emerging challenges affecting public health systems in Latin America? How do healthcare financing mechanisms influence affordability and access? Which policy interventions are most effective in strengthening health infrastructure and service delivery? How can digital technologies and other innovations improve public health outcomes? What role can entrepreneurship and innovative business or social models play in addressing healthcare gaps? How can emerging health needs, symptoms, and trends be identified and addressed in a timely manner? What strategies can promote more equitable, resilient, and sustainable public health systems? To gather further insights into the scope of public health systems in Latin America, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Healthcare financing, affordability, and equitable access to health services• Policy interventions and strategies for strengthening health infrastructure and public health systems• Technological advancements, digital health, and innovative solutions for healthcare delivery• Community-based and community-driven health initiatives• The role of international organizations in strengthening public health systems• Health entrepreneurship, healthcare innovation, and sustainable models for health service delivery• Early identification of health needs, symptoms, and emerging public health challenges• Emerging health trends, opportunities for improvement, and strategies for enhancing public health outcomes• Public-private partnerships and collaborative approaches to strengthening healthcare systems• Innovative approaches to improving healthcare quality, efficiency, resilience, and sustainabilityWe welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, scoping reviews, case studies, policy analyses, and theoretical or conceptual frameworks.
