Transforming Veterinary Medicine: Digital Tools and AI as Path to Sustainable Animal Care - volume II
Due to the remarkable success of the Research Topic 'Transforming Veterinary Medicine: Digital Tools and AI as Path to Sustainable Animal Care' and the rapidly evolving subject area, we are pleased to launch Volume II for this topic.Veterinary medicine is undergoing a technological revolution, driven by advancements in AI, IoT, and sensor-based systems. Precision livestock farming has enabled real-time monitoring of herd health, productivity, and environmental impact, paving the way for improved animal welfare and resource efficiency. Similarly, digital health monitoring tools for companion animals, such as wearable devices and AI-assisted diagnostics, are empowering pet owners and veterinarians with actionable insights for proactive care.In wildlife conservation and management, applications of digital tools and AI are increasingly pivotal. Innovative technologies facilitate fauna monitoring, enabling precise observation and analysis of wildlife populations. AI and sensor technologies play crucial roles in diagnosing health issues in rehabilitation centers, ensuring timely and accurate treatment for injured or sick animals. Furthermore, these technologies contribute to habitat assessments for species reintroduction programs, helping conservationists analyze environmental suitability and design strategies that enhance survivability and adaptation. Collectively, these applications significantly impact wildlife conservation, offering new pathways for preserving biodiversity and managing ecosystems sustainably.Despite these advancements, critical challenges persist, including the need for scalable, cost-effective tools, ethical considerations, and resistance to technology adoption. Additionally, antimicrobial resistance remains a pressing concern, requiring innovative strategies for antibiotic stewardship. This Research Topic aims to provide a platform for discussing how AI and digital tools can address these challenges, showcasing their potential to transform veterinary medicine, wildlife conservation, and animal care.Veterinary medicine and livestock farming face growing challenges in optimizing health monitoring, disease prevention, and resource efficiency. AI and digital technologies offer unprecedented opportunities to tackle these challenges by enabling real-time health monitoring, predictive analytics, and decision-making support. The goal of this Research Topic is to explore these transformative technologies while fostering collaborations among researchers, veterinarians, and industry leaders. Emphasis will be placed on how AI-driven tools can support judicious antibiotic use, reduce AMR risks, and promote sustainable practices in livestock, wildlife, and companion animal care.We welcome contributions on the following themes:• AI algorithms and precision diagnostic tools for disease detection, prediction, and decision-making in livestock, companion animals, and wildlife conservation.• Digital health monitoring technologies, including wearables and IoT devices, for veterinary and wildlife applications.• Strategies to mitigate antimicrobial resistance, including AI-driven decision-making for antibiotic use reduction.• Innovations in PLF tools for improving animal health, welfare, and environmental sustainability.• Telemedicine and remote health monitoring systems for companion animals and wildlife.Ethical, social, and regulatory considerations in adopting AI and digital health tools in veterinary medicine and wildlife management.Submissions may include original research, reviews, mini-reviews, and case reports. Contributions exploring interdisciplinary approaches and real-world applications, particularly in wildlife conservation, are encouraged. By participating, authors can help shape the future of veterinary medicine, wildlife conservation, and animal care through innovative digital solutions.
