Translating Cardiometabolic Ageing into Precision Clinical Practice

Cardiometabolic diseases (CMD), including type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, remain the leading contributors to global morbidity and mortality. While chronological age is a major determinant of risk, there is growing recognition that biological ageing, captured through multi-dimensional biomarkers, may provide a more precise framework for risk stratification and early intervention. However, despite rapid advances in the development of biological ageing markers, including epigenetic clocks, transcriptomic and proteomic signatures, their integration into clinical decision-making remains limited. This Research Topic aims to bridge the gap between biological ageing research and its practical application in cardiometabolic medicine. We invite contributions that focus on the integration of biological ageing markers with established cardiometabolic risk factors to improve prediction, prevention, and treatment strategies. Particular emphasis will be placed on approaches that move beyond mechanistic insights toward clinically actionable frameworks.Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:(1) integration of epigenetic and multi-omic ageing markers with traditional risk scores in CMD;(2) identification of biological ageing phenotypes associated with cardiometabolic risk and disease progression;(3) application of biological clocks in early detection and prevention strategies;(4) stratification of treatment response based on ageing-related biomarkers, including pharmacogenomic and multi-omic approaches;(5) the role of lifestyle and pharmacological interventions in modulating biological ageing trajectories in CMD;(6) development of clinically translatable models that incorporate ageing metrics into routine care.Importantly, this Topic prioritizes studies with clear translational relevance, including clinical cohorts, interventional studies, and real-world data analyses.By focusing on the intersection of biological ageing and cardiometabolic disease within a clinically actionable framework, this Research Topic aims to advance precision prevention and therapeutic targeting, ultimately contributing to improved healthspan and patient-centered care.
