Translational Advances in Lobular Carcinoma of the Breast

Based on WHO classification, Breast carcinomas have varying histomorphologies and each subtype has its own translational importance. Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), which constitutes upto 15 % of the breast cancers, is the second most common type of breast cancer. Usually its treated under a blanket of Hormone receptor positive breast cancers, which also includes Invasive breast cancers, no special type (ductal), despite having a proven distinct pathobiology. Although increasing, more comprehensive research is needed to better tackle this tumor subtype.Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), the second most common subtype of breast cancer, exhibits characteristic histomorphology and distinct pathobiological, clinical, and radiological features, as well as unique metastatic patterns. Despite these defining attributes, ILC has historically been understudied and often grouped with invasive breast carcinoma of no special type (NST) or other rare histologic variants. With the growing emphasis on precision medicine and molecularly guided therapies, it is increasingly evident that ILC warrants focused investigation as a distinct disease entity. Dedicated studies and refined literature are essential to elucidate its unique biology and to develop tailored diagnostic and therapeutic approaches specific to ILC.This Research Topic aims to supplement the growing literature, concerning the pathobiology, epidemiology, immune landscape and translational aspects of invasive lobular breast cancer. In this issue, we welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, clinical trials, new methods case reports, policy and practice reviews, hypothesis and theory, documentaries, mini review, perspective, brief research report, case reports, policy brief, opinion and general commentary. We invite submissions that address a broad range of themes related to precision medicine, pathobiology, pathology, health equity in lobular cancers, including but not limited to:• Genomics, Molecular & Pathological Features: Use or role of genomics, molecular and pathological features in Lobular carcinomas of the breast• Digital and artificial intelligence tools: Implementation of digital health innovations and AI for decision support, prognostication, and risk prediction• Precision medicine and biomarkers: Novel biomarkers and precision medicine approach in lobular carcinomas• Health equity: Health equity in terms of policy, diagnostic tests or demographics• Policy and education: Specialized Training for Palliative Teams and Advocacy for ILC specific research.
