Vaccine Innovation and Immunity for Emerging and Neglected Tropical Diseases
Emerging and neglected tropical diseases continue to pose major public health challenges across low- and middle-income countries, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations and straining healthcare systems. Despite significant advances in immunology, genomics, and biotechnology, effective vaccines for many tropical diseases remain unavailable, underdeveloped, or inaccessible in endemic settings. In addition, climate change, urbanization, antimicrobial resistance, and increased human–animal interactions are contributing to the emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases with epidemic and pandemic potential. This Research Topic aims to bring together multidisciplinary research advancing vaccine discovery, development, evaluation, and implementation for tropical infectious diseases, including neglected tropical diseases and emerging zoonotic pathogens. We welcome contributions spanning basic, translational, clinical, and implementation research. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Novel vaccine platforms and adjuvants;• Systems immunology and immune correlates of protection;• AI, bioinformatics, and multi-omics approaches in vaccine development;• Maternal, pediatric, and population immunity;• Vaccines for malaria, arboviruses, helminths, tuberculosis, and other tropical infections;• One Health and zoonotic disease approaches;• Preclinical and clinical vaccine studies;• Vaccine delivery, access, uptake, and implementation in resource-limited settings;• Pandemic preparedness and regional vaccine manufacturing capacity.
