Women in Earth and Planetary Materials
The under-representation and retention of women in the geosciences remain a global, persistent challenge. Frontiers in Earth Science is proud to launch the Research Topics called Women in Earth and Planetary Materials to spotlight, celebrate, and amplify the work of women researchers across the full breadth of mineral sciences, from the atomic-scale properties of minerals, melts, and fluids to the planetary-wide processes that shape Earth and other celestial bodies. We welcome contributions led or co-led by women-identifying scientists at all career stages, spanning experimental, analytical, computational, and theoretical approaches. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:Mineral, melt, and fluid behaviour under ambient and extreme conditionsExperimental and simulation-based studies of Earth and planetary materialsMineral physics, crystallography, and high-pressure/high-temperature researchPlanetary materials, meteoritics, and comparative planetologyInterdisciplinary approaches linking atomic-scale properties to planetary-scale processesWe accept a wide range of article types, including Original Research, Methods, Reviews and Mini Reviews, Hypothesis and Theory, Perspective, and Opinion articles. We particularly encourage contributions that reflect on career pathways, mentorship, and the obstacles women in the field have navigated, and how. This Research Topic aims both to record the contributions of women who have shaped and enriched Earth and Planetary Materials, and to support the visibility of those advancing the field today. Submissions also contribute to advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals 13, 14, and 15.Prospective authors are encouraged to send a short abstract outlining the purpose and main results of their proposed contribution, so that fit with the Topic can be confirmed at an early stage.
