Women in Marine Science: 2026

Women play an important role in marine science and according to a recent UN report they make up 38% of ocean science researchers. This Research Topic (RT) aims to bring visibility to research conducted or led by such women and showcase the diversity of topics investigated across the field. We call for submissions covering a wide scope of marine science and ocean-related themes that highlight advances in theory, experimental work, technological developments and methodological applications to compelling problems, data modelling into policy design and implementation for better management, interdisciplinary approaches to conservation of marine biodiversity and resources. With a strong focus on original science work, this RT also welcomes submissions that address gender equality aspects, such as challenges or barriers women researchers face across the field of ocean science. This RT will aim to highlight the scope of the Frontiers in Marine Science as well as that of Frontiers in Ocean Sustainability.Original research papers, reviews or perspective papers will be accepted. To be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a researcher who identifies as a woman.
