Youth Mental Health in the Digital Lifestyle Era: From School to Clinic

Youth mental health is shaped by a tight weave of digital environments (apps, social media, gaming, telehealth), lifestyle factors (sleep/circadian rhythm, physical activity, nutrition), and care contexts (school, family, primary care, and specialty clinics). Evidence is accumulating that combining digital technology with lifestyle interventions or healthcare can improve outcomes and access, especially for underserved populations. Also, there is growing evidence that unsupervised access to the digital medium can cause harm and distress in adolescents. These mixed views show the need for continued exploration in this field. This research topic aims to convene evidence-based science that translates innovation into higher quality of life and provided data-backed policy recommendations across the school–family–clinic continuum. The editors particularly welcome submissions focusing, but not limited to, the following areas:- Epidemiological studies on the current digital environment of youth in various cultures, how these can be scaled to a global level- Trials on digital therapeutics or tele-mental health on the youth population- Exploration of the effects of digital technology on child and adolescent mental health, school and family life- Detection of problematic digital technology usage, prevalence, risk/protective factors, comorbidities and short- or long-term outcomes- Integration of digital biomarkers or brain imaging with psychological data- Examining or evaluating digital medium usage in school-family-clinic settings Topic editors: Hyunchan Hwang, Xiwang Fan, Chan-Mo Yang Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/76896/youth-mental-health-in-the-digital-lifestyle-era-from-school-to-clinic
