Abstract
Keywords
There was an error is in the abbreviation of the unit of the tidal friction rate: “m”, it should be “ms”.
A correction has been made to the following sections:
3.4.1 Coral fossil data, paragraph 2: … tidal friction rate of 2.5 ms per century
Figure 11 Caption: … tidal effects, which is 2.5 ms/century,
3.4.1 Coral fossil data, paragraph 2:
“However, when the effect of tidal friction on the length of the day is combined with the expansion of the Earth’s orbit on the length of the year—at the currently accepted Hubble rate H0 = 70 (km/s)/Mpc—the prediction matches the coral fossil record over the past 900 million years. Conversely, applying the tidal friction rate of 2.5 ms per century, the coral data yield the Hubble constant H0 = 70 ± 2 (km/s)/Mpc without any cosmological observations, as shown in Figure 11.”
FIGURE 11 Caption:
“Days per year from coral fossil data over the past billion years. Black points represent observational data from multiple paleontological studies spanning 100–850 million years. Data 0 Myr–579 Myr, Eicher (1976), Figure 5; the −850 Myr point is the best fit of several samples in Vanyo and Awramik (1985), Figure 4. The red curve represents the estimate used for the lengthening of the day due to tidal effects, which is 2.5 ms/century, IAU resolution (1991). The blue curve represents the DU prediction incorporating both space expansion (causing proportional increase in Earth–Moon distance and planetary orbital radii) and tidal recession. The black curve represents the length of the year in current days, showing year lengthening with expansion.”
