Harnessing of Microwave Remote Sensing: Next Generation Radar Observation for Vegetation and Soil Moisture Monitoring

Microwave remote sensing represents the next era of remote sensing, with advanced radar sensors, real time monitoring applications, and robust sensing capabilities for observing Earth targets from remote platforms. The next generation of radar sensors and technologies for vegetated terrain is advancing scientific understanding, technology development, and the application of microwave remote sensing through active and passive microwave technologies with multifrequency, polarimetric, and multidimensional radar configurations. This multidisciplinary Research Topic focuses on the latest advances and applications of microwave remote sensing at local, regional, and global levels, using advanced and emerging radar techniques and space platforms to monitor forestry, vegetation, and soil at canopy and subcanopy levels. The primary goal of this Research Topic is to compile innovative contributions covering the full range of microwave remote sensing observations, including theoretical developments, computationally efficient methods, benchmark dataset creation, hybrid technologies, and the translation of research findings into practical applications in the agricultural sector. Academics and industry professionals, agrometeorologists, microwave sensor designers, algorithm developers, and application domain specialists are encouraged to contribute to these areas. We welcome relevant Original Research, Methods, Technology Reports, and Review articles addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:Monitoring of forests and retrieval of biomass parametersPrecision agriculture and crop monitoringApplications in hydrology and subsurface soil moisture monitoringAdvanced polarimetric and tomographic frameworks using next generation radar sensorsIntegration of machine learning and data fusion for global applications in vegetated terrainMonostatic and bistatic radar data for vegetated terrainFuture trends and challenges in microwave remote sensing for vegetation and soil monitoring Topic editors: Dr. Vijay Pratap Yadav, Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Ruchi Bala Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/85914/harnessing-of-microwave-remote-sensing-next-generation-radar-observation-for-vegetation-and-soil-moisture-monitoring
