Lifestyle, Nutrition, and Redox Health: Molecular Mechanisms of Aging Intervention

Aging is a complex biological process shaped by a variety of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Central to this process is redox homeostasis, the intricate balance between oxidative forces and antioxidant defenses. This equilibrium is critical as its disruption, known as oxidative stress, is increasingly pinpointed as a driving force behind age-related diseases and the deterioration of bodily functions. Recent studies have indicated that maintaining redox homeostasis holds promise for extending healthspan and lifespan, but the molecular pathways through which lifestyle and nutrition impact this balance remain underexplored. This Research Topic aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms through which lifestyle choices - encompassing exercise, stress management, and sleep - and dietary patterns interact with redox biology to impact aging processes. The focus is on integrating interdisciplinary insights into cellular signaling pathways, epigenetic alterations, metabolism, and mitochondrial dynamics to construct a comprehensive understanding of these interactions. Our goal is to identify molecular pathways and interventions that can offer predictive insights or therapeutic opportunities to improve aging health outcomes. To gather further insights into lifestyle, nutrition, and redox health, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:o The role of dietary antioxidants, phytochemicals, and macronutrient composition in redox control and cellular aging.o Relationships between physical activity, muscle physiology, and redox signaling affecting age biomarkers.o Lifestyle interventions, whether holistic or targeted, and their impact on redox pathways and multi-omics levels.o Influence of gut microbiota and nutrition interactions on systemic redox balance in healthy aging.o Translational and clinical research on nutritional or lifestyle interventions aimed at mitigating aging through redox regulation.o Mechanisms of hormesis and stress adaptation as therapeutic targets.o Nutrient-sensing pathways (mTOR, AMPK, sirtuin signaling) as molecular integrators of dietary cues and aging rate.We invite original research, reviews, mini-reviews, and perspectives to illuminate the dynamic interactions of lifestyle and nutrition in modifying redox health and aging. Bridging the gap between basic science and practical applications, with an emphasis on innovative methodologies and therapeutic angles, is strongly encouraged as we work to enhance quality of life through targeted interventions.
