Recent Advances in Acari Biology, Ecology and Control Strategies

Acari, including ticks and mites, represent one of the most diverse and ecologically important groups within Arachnida, with significant impacts on animal health, agriculture, and ecosystems worldwide. Many species are of medical and veterinary importance, acting as vectors of pathogens or causing substantial economic losses through direct parasitism and infestation. In recent years, advances in molecular biology, ecology, microbiology, and host-parasite interaction studies have significantly expanded our understanding of Acari biology. These advances have opened new opportunities for developing innovative and sustainable control strategies, particularly in response to increasing resistance to chemical acaricides and growing environmental concerns. New approaches involving biological control agents, microbiome-based strategies, host immune modulation, and environmentally friendly compounds are emerging as promising alternatives for Acari management. In addition, improvements in genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics are providing deeper insights into Acari physiology, adaptation, and host interactions. This Research Topic aims to gather recent advances in Acari biology, ecology, and control strategies, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers working in veterinary sciences, parasitology, acarology, ecology, and biotechnology.
