Remote Sensing Applications in Biosphere Reserves

Biosphere reserves function as living laboratories for sustainable development. They test integrated ways to understand and manage the relationship between society and nature, including biodiversity protection and conflict management. These areas develop local strategies to address global environmental challenges while balancing conservation with responsible resource use. Remote sensing is an essential tool for the management and conservation of Biosphere Reserves by providing spatially explicit, consistent, and long-term environmental information.Remote sensing constitutes a strategic and indispensable tool for the management and conservation of Biosphere Reserves worldwide. Its contributions span ecosystem monitoring, threat detection, climate change assessment, spatial planning, and policy support. The integration of remote sensing with field observations and socio-ecological knowledge significantly enhances the capacity of Biosphere Reserves to fulfill their conservation, development, and logistic support functions in a changing global environment. We welcome submissions of Original Research, Review, and Methodology articles. Specific themes include, but are not limited to:- Monitoring of Land Use and Land Cover Dynamics- Assessment of Ecosystem Condition and Biodiversity- Detection of Environmental Pressures and Disturbances- Climate Change Monitoring and Impact Assessment- Support for Zoning and Spatial Planning Topic editors: Carlos Novillo Camacho, Raul Romero-Calcerrada, Silvia Merino-de-Miguel Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/78926/remote-sensing-applications-in-biosphere-reserves
