About the journal

Scope

The journal welcomes original research and scholarly contributions examining the societal, behavioral, epidemiological, and health-system dimensions of cancer prevention and control.

Topics within scope include:

  • Behavioral aspects of cancer screening and diagnosis
  • Cancer survival and survivorship
  • Cancer epidemiology and population-based research methods
  • Multifaceted approaches to cancer support
  • Social determinants of cancer and health inequalities
  • Workplace conditions, living environments, and cancer
  • Access to screening, early diagnosis, and cancer services
  • Public health strategies and policies for cancer control
  • Quality of life and support for people affected by cancer
  • Socioeconomic disparities in cancer risk, care, and survival

Research should demonstrate a clear connection to cancer prevention or control at the population or societal level. Studies limited to basic cancer biology or clinical diagnosis and treatment without a cancer-control perspective are not suitable for this journal.

Aims

1. To advance research on the societal and population-level dimensions of cancer prevention and control.

2. To improve understanding of behavioral factors influencing cancer screening, diagnosis, and early detection.

3. To promote research on cancer survival, survivorship, and quality of life.

4. To investigate social determinants and socioeconomic inequalities affecting cancer risk and outcomes.

5. To encourage evidence-based public health policies and effective cancer-control programs.

6. To support research on workplace conditions, living environments, and other contextual influences on cancer.

7. To foster collaboration among epidemiologists, public health researchers, behavioral scientists, policymakers, and cancer-support professionals.

8. To disseminate evidence that contributes to more equitable cancer prevention and control and to Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.

Instructions for authors

Authors must submit manuscripts to the specialty section most appropriate to their research question and demonstrate a clear contribution to cancer prevention or control at the population or societal level.

Manuscripts should present scientifically rigorous research, appropriate methods, and findings relevant to public health, cancer epidemiology, screening, survival, social determinants, or cancer support.

Authors must:

  • Follow the journal's current manuscript preparation and submission requirements.
  • Select an article type accepted by the relevant specialty section.
  • Include a title, abstract, keywords, references, figures, and tables where applicable.
  • Describe study design, participant selection, data sources, statistical analyses, and limitations in sufficient detail.
  • Use appropriate reporting guidelines, such as STROBE for observational studies or CONSORT for randomized trials, when applicable.
  • Explain the implications of the findings for cancer control, public health, policy, or population outcomes.
  • Disclose funding sources, author contributions, and competing interests.
  • Obtain required ethics approvals and informed consent where applicable.
  • Protect participant confidentiality and handle sensitive health data appropriately.
  • Provide data availability statements and share supporting materials when appropriate and legally permitted.
  • Respond to editorial and reviewer comments during peer review.

Research focused exclusively on basic cancer science or clinical diagnosis and treatment, without a clear link to cancer control in society, is outside the journal's stated scope.
