Frontiers in Metals and Alloys is a multidisciplinary journal publishing research across the science, design, and application of metallic materials and alloys. Led by Field Chief Editor Dr Ian Baker (Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College Hanover, USA), this interdisciplinary journal explores the fundamental and applied science of metals and alloys, from their design and processing to their structural performance, functional properties, and sustainable use in society and industry. Covering a broad range of topics, subjects of interest include, but are not limited to: additive manufacturing and novel processing methods advanced materials characterization techniques alloys for biomedical applications alloy design and material processing computational and data-driven metallurgy (including AI, machine learning, and digital twins) corrosion, environmental degradation, and surface engineering functional properties of metals (including magnetic, thermoelectric, and shape-memory alloys) mechanical behavior and structural performance nanocrystalline alloys sustainable metallurgy and circular economy. Submissions that support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 9: industry, innovation, and infrastructure, and SDG 12: responsible consumption and production, are also welcome. Manuscripts relating to chemical metallurgy, polymers, semiconductors or ceramics are not within scope and are not suitable for publication in this journal. Frontiers’ journals require that manuscripts primarily comprising computational studies of public data, such as bibliometric studies, must include appropriate validation. Please refer to the Frontiers Standards for research methodology policy, for more information. Manuscripts not adhering to these standards will not be considered. Frontiers in Metals and Alloys is committed to advancing developments in the field by providing unrestricted access to articles and communicating scientific knowledge to researchers and the public worldwide.
